Will Cider House be your perfect escape?
For those seeking space, to pause and immerse themselves in a in the stillness of the beautiful 700 acre Buckland Abbey, Gardens and Estate. Offering luxury and peace, a relaxing break to unwind from busy lives, a world away and a slower pace for up to 8 guests.
Checking in and Checking out...
Our turnover days are Mondays and Fridays. To enable our team to have sufficuent time to make it lovely for our next guests we ask that guests vacate the property before 10am and check in from 4pm onwards. Should you wish to extend your stay beyond our standard changeover days do please get in touch.
What parking is available at the property?
Cider House has parking for up to 4 guest cars at the property, any additional vehicles can be parked in the Main National Trust carpark by prior arrangment.
Will there be enough living space?
Perfect for multi generational stays, groups or retreats with space for everyone. The beautiful country kitchen, boasts both a large four door Aga and an induction range cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and central granite island plus all the other essentials you might need, including a bean-to-cup coffee machine and a large wine fridge in the hall. This well-equipped kitchen is perfect for entertaining.
Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining room, where you’ll find the large circular dining table that seats eight, plus a cabinet brim-full of tableware for mealtimes. The mullion windows offer views over the gardens and out over the countryside beyond, where cattle graze and birds fly by and enjoy tasty morsels from the bird table.
Set within the 12th century part of the house, the stunning drawing room is the perfect settings for late evenings around the cosy jet master open fire. During the daylight hours, light from the windows on all but one of the walls let in plenty of light and offer beautiful views whilst double doors lead out on to the terrace. Two beautiful linen sofas offer plenty of lounging space whilst well-positioned occasional chairs are the perfect spot for curling up with a good book, no slow paced space would be complete without a plethora of puzzles and board games – just made for afternoons at home.
In addition to the drawing room there’s a fabulous snug, dating back to the 15th century, to hide away in with plenty of seating. To bring it firmly up to date, there’s a large 55″ Smart TV with Freeview and a DVD player, making it the perfect spot for catching up with your favourite box sets or films.
Will there be Wifi and mobile signal
So many of our guests come to switch off and step away from busy lives, whilst we have wifi, it can be slow and mobile signal is not overly strong – we will be doing backflips when fiber reaches us!
Can we have visitors whilst we stay?
Cider House is provisioned for up to 8 guests with lots of lovely space for everyone but is not suited to larger gatherings.
Is Cider House suited to Children and Pets?
Babies and children are very welcome at Cider House. Please bring your own baby equipment, the bedrooms could accommodate 2 additional travel cots above the maximum 8 guests detailed. Please note that there is open water in the gardens and grounds and some areas are unfenced.
Two dogs are very welcome at Mulberry Barton, with the usual requests that they remain downstairs, not on furniture and are not left alone in the property. Please note, there is an additional fee £35 per dog, per week or short break.
Do you have T&C's we ought to read prior to booking?
We do! We ask that guests read our Terms and Conditions prior to booking.
Will I need holiday insurance?
Although not a mandatory part of the T&C’s we would advise the purchase of Holiday Insurance.
Are there any additional charges I need to be aware of?
No – the only amount you have to pay is the rental fee, we don’t charge security deposits as we believe that guests will fall in love with our beautiful home as much as we have and will adore and look after it accordingly – we understand that wear and tear is sometimes unavoidable and whilst we ask for any damage whatever the size to be flagged to us before you leave, we understand that accidents happen and would only charge if rectifying damage exceeded £25.
Can we visit Buckland Abbey during our stay?
Complementary guest passes are provided to guests for the duration of their stay to gain access to Buckland Abbey, former home to Sir Francis Drake and the monks before him along with their award-winning gardens and wider woodland estate.
Do you offer any additional experiences or services?
From our love of wellness we can offer offer a range of options including yoga classes in the garden studio, guided Dartmoor walks and wild swimming excursions and massage therapy treatments.
For the convenience of coming away as a larger group but not wanting to cook we work with a range of amazing caterers who can provide anything from perfect picnics or Aga suppers to fine dining, spoiling celebrations and everything inbetween!
