Cider House at Buckland Abbey

Cider House Living

Cider House is for those seeking a slower pace, spoiling celebrations, friends and family getaways, indulgent time and space just for you, away from the busy demands of life.

Inside Living

Space for everyone, Time to enjoy the moment, Time for you…

From the stunning Drawing Room with open fire, basket of board games and puzzles, local guides, maps and eatery menus; the kettle whistling on the Aga, views from the dining table over the garden and valley, TV snug with huge sofas to sink into, you have found a home from home.

Cider House is a spacious beautifully appointed period property with nods to its history of the monks and Sir Francis Drake at every turn.

Outside Living

Dine alfresco or walk the back drive of the Abbey Estate and down the hill for a pub supper, with a moonlit walk back under the stars.

The sound of birdsong, running water, the scent of the roses in the warmth of the evening sun, bare feet on soft grass, laughter, swimming in the bracing river waters.

In the winter, warming hands by the Aga after a windswept moorland walk, hot buttered crumpets, candle lit suppers and roaring log fires, Christmas memories, New Year wishes….

Location and Directions

Nestled in the idyllic National Trust Buckland Abbey 700 acre Estate, Cider House feels a world away and yet on the edges of Dartmoor and within striking distance of the coast. For details of how to find us, to help you plan your journey.

Arrival and Departure

The property will be available from 4pm on your date of arrival and we ask that guests check out before 10am on their departure date.

What You Can Expect to Find

For those who like the details beyond the beautiful images, so you know what you will find in the kitchen, who looks after the biomass boiler (we do), where the board games are stored, whether there is a wine fridge (there is!) and many things besides.

For Younger Visitors

Cider House can accommodate up to 8 but guests are welcome to bring up to 2 travel cots for babies in addition to these numbers.
Parts of the gardens contain open water which is not fenced and the orchard has our free range chickens and cockerel as such we would ask that children be supervised in these areas.

Your Digital Detox

Cider House offers a slower pace, whilst we do have wi-fi and Netflix the monks were not considering the internet when they decided on the wall thickness and our speed could be described as glacial until fibre finally reaches us.

Four Legged Visitors

Dogs have always been a part of our lives and in a 700 acre estate on the fringes of Dartmoor and half an hour from the coast it is perfect dog walking in every direction Guests are very welcome to bring 2 well behaved dogs to join them for their stay (£35/dog)
